DIY Unfinished Small Crates Turned Playhouse Veggie Bins
We have been working hard on True’s bedroom in our desert home and this past week we built out her kitchen underneath her truck bed. True loves to play with her cute little kitchen we got form Ikea and we really needed a way to organize all of her play fruits and veggies. I got two of these unfinished mini crates from Wall-Mart and gave them a simple but major makeover using two additional supplies; Paint & Yarn.
The first thing I did was spray paint the bins this vintage coral color. You can also use regular acrylic paint but spray paint cuts down your time and dries much faster. Plus, it is fun.
I wanted a fun color pop and so I chose a few different colors of yarn to wrap around in block sections. This was really easy to do and I started by tying the yarn tightly in a knot around the piece of wood. The key is to leave a long enough end so that when you are done wrapping the yarn you can tie another knot using the original yarn end. This allows you to secure the yarn without needing glue. Once the knot is tied, trim the ends so they are not visible.
Here is the finished product and we love how it turned out. I did a different pattern for the second bin and it perfectly holds all of True’s pretend foods while adding a fun color pop to her playhouse. Simple and easy DIY for you to try!
